Racism in 2009??

OK, seriously??? I work for a Fortune 500 company. Love my job and I am NOT complaining....buuut...the people I have to deal with, mostly on a daily basis can be outrageous. When people come I stand, smile and greet them, not only because it's a part of my job, but also because I feel that is the right way to someone know, "Hey, I'm here and I can help you". Some people speak and go to someone else (which is fine), some people come right over and some people act like I am completely transparent and silent. Like WT-eff??? I work with a Caucasian woman (who is no where near racist) and if they see her there, if she's busy or not, they will go to her (after ignoring me). No problem there because there is always something to do...but, sometimes she HAS to tell them to come to me. Which I also don't mind because she's been there WAY longer than me and they are more familiar with her. But, the other day, this guy went as far as telling me he doesn't trust "my kind" with his money. KEWL DUDE!!! haha...And this isn't just targeted at White people (whom I DO NOT have ANY discrepancies with). Lawd knows I would be wrong to say that this is the only place this NASTY bug exists. In our urban communities, there is more of a "melting pot" kind of setting, and people still dislike each other because of ethnicity. Guys, it's 2009!!! How can we build a better America with this kind of hate? How can we HONESTLY say America is the land of opportunity, when we all share this same handicap? The ignorance people possess, in this time and day, is sad. I can't be mad at them. That's the way of life they know. But why? Why teach your children to hate someone for something they have no control over? I didn't pick the color of my skin and, given the chance, I wouldn't change it. Who's place it to belittle someone or make them feel uncomfortable in the skin they are in. Studies show we are 99.9% identical. MEANING we are ALL HUMAN. We, mostly, see, smell, hear, feel, taste, reproduce and effectively communicate the same.

Get a grip people. ALL people. At the end of the day, we are ALL here to stay!!!

Final thought: How can we love God, whom which we cannot see, but hate our brothers and sisters whom we see daily?

  1. Wow... this portion really hit me. It's a 'common' concept, but so hard to grasp...and that's so disappointing and discouraging. I just hope to raise my kids to love people of ALL kinds unconditionally. Regardless of how they may feel about us, the love has to come from SOMEWHERE. Thank you so much for sharing this.
